BOSTON -- Eighteen United Ways from across the Commonwealth announced today that they are responding to widespread increases in need by uniting for a new statewide drive to provide emergency assistance for basic needs this winter. The emergency appeal, called the Community Support Fund, will leverage the support of residents from all corners of the Commonwealth to create a safety net for individuals and families in crisis.  read more »

Entrepreneurial Youth Launch Ventures with the Help of United Way

BOSTON – United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley announced today that the organization will be investing $10,500 to give seven teams of entrepreneurial youth the start-up capital they need to inspire their peers, bridge the gap between elders and youth, help the environment and otherwise change the future of their communities. The youth were part of United Way’s Youth Venture Program which inspires and invests in teams of young people, ages 12-18, to start social projects that create positive, lasting change in their communities.  read more »

United Way names Deborah Sinay Chief Development Officer

BOSTON – Michael K. Durkin, president and chief executive officer at United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, today announced Deborah Sinay as the organization’s new Chief Development Officer. With the move, Durkin taps into the leadership and development skills that recently drove to completion a $47 million capital campaign for the Boston Children’s Museum on Children’s Wharf. Residence for boys aging out of foster care selected for renovation

(Cambridge, MA—September 8, 2008) Tsoi/Kobus & Associates (TK&A), Commodore Builders of Newton, and United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley announced today they will collaborate on a major community build project at Putnam Place, a group home for teen boys aged 16-19 who have aged out of state foster care and are moving towards independence. Run by Cambridge Family & Children’s Service, Putnam Place will receive a renovation estimated to be worth more than $100,000.  read more »
